memory's kiss

if you feel what I am feeling
you're searching for words that bring healing
not poetry about drug dealing
I scan for words that energize
that make me realize, recognize
some inner truth: "never apologize"
true words stand on their own
don't feel the need to atone
don't like what I have to say?
so leave my words alone
won't find me writing about how many men I've blown
more likely to write about emotions I've shown
my fear of death, of falling, of heights
what keeps me awake worrying nights
might just discover we share the same frights
not afraid of spiders or snakes, I'm a nature girl
but once was attacked by an army of squirrels
likely to write of hugging a tree
the energy I put in comes back to me
don't believe? try it. you'll see.
getting my fill of its life energy
likely to write of sidewalks unending
covering a planet in deep need of mending
this makes me cry - I see no need for pretending
not to have emotions, luckily emotions don't need defending
I admit freely - I cry without shame
as deeply as I love I can feel pain
can't turn it on and off like a faucet more like a torrential rain
tears refusing to stop until I feel whole again
I have the entire spectrum of emotions
some cry rivers, I cry entire oceans
I cry for those who can't form the tears
for those who haven't cried in ten years
I share their joy, their pain, their fears
let it out for them at night while they drink their beers
for every painful moment I have one of pure bliss
call this the duality of memory's kiss
for every bad there is good and good there is bad
this law functions for each memory I've had
sad moments happy, happy moments sad
each of these emotions scantily clad
any moment my soul will be bare to the sun
might end up burned before the day is done
but at least when it's over I can say I had fun
living and loving while I wait for the one
who understands everything I'm going through
you never know, the one could be you.
